I have a strong passion for art and I decided to create a figure that resembles the emotions and thoughts that Hamlet was experiencing throughout the play. These emotions and thoughts are no stranger to the average person.
The title of my art piece is “Perfectly Imperfect.” This very unique title was carefully chosen.
Many of us tend to create our own interpretation behind the meaning of “perfection.” We sometimes walk around and glance at our surroundings and peers while picking out the “perfect” people in the distance. Majority of us are always comparing ourselves to others. However, when we do this, it only brings us down because we are comparing ourselves to people’s “cover.” Think of it as a book. When we compare ourselves to others we are only looking at the cover of the book and we don’t know what the book is about. Imagine you were able to actually know them and their whole story. Our perspective on them being “perfect” might change. Therefore, my goal is that I want the viewer to see and feel this when they look at my artwork. This displays that perfection is not always something you should strive towards.
These emotions are seen within Shakespeare's Hamlet. Hamlet needed to avenge his fathers murder, but unfortunately he was seeking a perfect revenge. No one is prefect, but Hamlet thought his revenge could be. For instance, Hamlet could have avenged his fathers murder on several occasions. Specifically, while Claudius was praying but again he thought if he was to take revenge at that moment it would not be just. By seeking a perfect murder it led him to never take revenge and feel countless emotions displayed in my art piece.
Perfection is the enemy of progress - Winston Churchill
Sometimes we set expectations so high from ourselves that it gets impossible to achieve, it's because somewhere we are expecting ourselves to be perfect. Perfection is an illusion based on every individuals own perception of themselves. Sometimes you have to just let things be. You have to accept that its okay to not be perfect.
"Do your best and, Forget the rest." - Tony Horton
Life is extremely unpredictable. Every day on this earth is not for certain so we do not know which day will be our last. If you try your best and give it your all for everything you do then that's better than being perfect. Use Hamlet as a lesson to show you that sometimes trying to achieve perfection can lead to your downfall. Let go of expectations, high ideals, and perfectionism because at any minute we could leave this earth. That being said, put on your best smile and have a positive attitude, don't worry about being perfect, just be good because good is good enough.
